It's that time of year again, San Francisco -- when a young man's (or woman's) fancy turns to thoughts of sun, fun, and...oysters.

This May 14th, take part in the largest oyster festival on the West Coast at the 12th Annual San Francisco Oyster Fest. Held on the grassy lawn of The Great Meadow at Fort Mason, Oyster Fest offers gorgeous views of the San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, live music from jam-tastic bands, and, of course, copious supplies of succulent Pacific oysters and thick, creamy Guinness Stout. Oyster Fest also benefits The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Whether you prefer your oysters deep fried, barbecued, or deliciously raw, Oyster Fest has you covered. Stop by a live cooking demo, educate yourself at the Oyster History Expo, or become an oyster connoisseur in the Oyster Pairing Room. Those with a competitive streak and a hearty appetite can compete in the annual Shuck and Suck Competition. Non-oyster and non-Guinness enthusiasts will find plenty to eat and drink as well, with wines, cocktails, lagers, barbecue and other tasty treats available.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with just picking up some fresh, juicy oysters and settling onto the grassy lawn with a cold pint of Guinness and your closest friends. Soak in the spring sunshine as you groove to the sounds of this year's musical lineup. Eclectic Rodrigo y Gabriela headline a billing that includes Guster, Pepper, Tea Leaf Green, and The Silent Comedy.

Gates open at 11 a.m. and the show starts at noon. Children under 14 enter for free when accompanied by an adult. No backpacks, coolers, outside food or beverage are permitted.
